Our Partners & Affiliations
The excellence of a Baliem Valley Highlands Society journey is built on a foundation of trusted, deeply-vetted partnerships. In one of the most logistically challenging regions on earth, our network is our strength. Each partner, from international aviation bodies to local community cooperatives, has been selected through the rigorous process detailed in Our Methodology. They share our commitment to safety, sustainability, and the highest standards of service. We are proud to work with and be recognized by the following organizations.

Our operations are conducted in full compliance and close coordination with key Indonesian government authorities, ensuring every journey is legal, official, and seamless.

Access to the Baliem Valley depends on reliable and safe air transport. We partner with Indonesia’s most reputable carriers for both commercial and private charter flights.
- Garuda Indonesia: As Indonesia’s flag carrier, we rely on Garuda for consistent and reliable service for the crucial leg of the journey to Jayapura (DJJ), the gateway to Papua.
- Trigana Air Service & Susi Air: For the specialized charter flights from Jayapura to Wamena and into more remote highland airstrips, we partner with established regional operators known for their experience in Papuan mountain flying.
- International SOS: For medical and emergency evacuation logistics, we retain the services of this world-leading provider, ensuring our clients have access to global-standard medical care if needed.

Conservation & Community Partners
Preserving the unique ecology and culture of the Baliem Valley is core to our mission. We proudly support and collaborate with leading conservation and community organizations.
- WWF Indonesia: We consult with their Papua program experts on best practices for minimizing our ecological footprint and support their initiatives related to the Lorentz National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site bordering the valley.
- The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Indonesia: We align our conservation efforts with TNC’s science-based approach, particularly concerning watershed protection and sustainable community livelihoods in the highlands.
- Yayasan Keanekaragaman Hayati Indonesia (KEHATI): We contribute to this leading biodiversity foundation, supporting their work in preserving Indonesia’s unique flora and fauna, including the endemic species of the Papuan highlands.
- Local Noken Weaving Cooperatives: We facilitate direct, fair-trade purchasing opportunities for our guests with local women’s cooperatives that produce Noken, the traditional knotted bags recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Hospitality Benchmarks
While the Baliem Valley has its own unique style of accommodation, we benchmark our service standards against the world’s best. Our operational philosophy is inspired by the attention to detail and sense of place perfected by Indonesia’s finest luxury properties, such as Nihi Sumba, Capella Ubud, and the Aman group’s Indonesian resorts. This ensures that even in a remote setting, the expectation of luxury is always met.
